  • hugh, you're way off on your price estimates. the highest model of gen 3 ipods retailed at $500. the high end is a thousand now because now they're greedy. they weren't so greedy back then.

  • @3:40 - RE: OS Restore. The 3rd Gen iPod I bought new here in Canada back in the day , and still have to this day, came with a cable that was USB 2.0 and Firewire. You plugged the Firewire into the charge brick and the USB 2.0 into the computer for sync. Made just about everything about it a pain in the butt. Glad that by the time I got my iPhone 3GS that replaced carrying around 2 devices, that Apple had overcome this restriction.

  • Just to add to my previous comment, you can still find batteries for them on eBay and Amazon. However, you are correct in that they are getting rare. I need to get more batteries. I wonder if they will make them in the future? Concerned. I still have two of those FireWire chargers. I used to use the iPod 4 and 5 also, but the iPod mini is just a better unit. It works better with Rockbox, and the SSD just fits right in smoother. Also, you just have to love the outside of the mini which is pure metal. The standard iPod is but plastic. Less quality.

    Tokyo JonTokyo Jon2 månader sedan
  • For my own footnote. I still use the older iPod Mini (2004-2005). I absolutely LOVE the thing and will keep it forever. Upgraded the drive to an SSD (64 or 128, I forgot). New battery and Rockbox'ed it. Sound is amazing. Have countless extras for parts. It's easy to work on, reliable. The only minor thing about it that I do not like is that cable that connects the MB to the HD is delicate and can get damaged. Even when ordering that cable off of eBay, I have received damaged ones. Beyond that, it is a perfect device.

  • This brought back some memories, I actually still have my original 40gb ipod sitting in a box somewhere lol. And yes I did actually use up all 40gbs back in the day, evanescence discog ftw lol. I'm an Aussie BTW and I think I paid like $500 or $600 for it, but the fact I used it for a solid 10+ years I think it was good value
